Metal processing can involve various operations that allow for shaping individual elements as envisioned by the designer of a given part or device. Among the technological processes performed particularly often is sheet metal bending. Learn how it works and check what method is used to price it.

What is sheet metal bending and how is it performed?

Sheet metal bending is a form of plastic forming, which allows for obtaining the appropriate geometry of the material as a result of applying force that enables exceeding the elasticity limit of a specific alloy and causing its permanent deformation in accordance with prepared plans. Plastic forming of sheet metal can be carried out in many ways, but one of the most popular methods is using press brakes. With their use, the sheet can be repeatedly bent at various angles, using a properly profiled die and a punch that presses the material. The sheets are placed on the machine’s work table, where there is a beam with the attached die, and positioned using a back gauge set at a specified distance. Then, thanks to hydraulic cylinders, an element called the upper beam, to which the punch is attached, is lowered. After making the first bend, the sheet is moved, and the device performs subsequent operations.

How is sheet metal bending priced?

The sheet metal bending service is priced depending on the labor input necessary to produce a specific part, as well as taking into account the size of the ordered series, because for larger orders, the preparation costs are spread over many products, which can result in a lower unit price. A detailed quote is possible after presenting technical drawings and order specifications.
